Chinese Medicine
In Chinese medicine, the body is viewed as a microcosm of nature, with energy meridians (pathways) having a relationship to the Five Elements of nature (water, wood, fire, earth and metal). When qi (energy) flows unobstructed through the meridians in our body, our energy is harmonized and the blockages that cause dis-ease in the body/mind/spirit are removed. We feel better physically and emotionally, experience a sense of well being and feel equipped to face our personal challenges.
Chinese herbal medicine is rooted in an expanded view of the Five Elements. It's called the Eight Principles of Chinese Medicine. Those Eight principles are the internal/external, cold/hot, deficient/excess, yin/yang. This traditional theory is the same theory that is the basis for acupuncture. Herbs are catagorized by their energy, actions and effect on the energy (organ) meridians based on these eight principles. If someone is presenting "cold, yang deficient" kidney energy symptoms, they would be well suited for a kidney yang formula like Goldenbook Tea Pills for instance.
There are many Chinese herbal remedies that are natural alternatives to common over the counter medicines we find on store shelves. These time tested Chinese herbal remedies are for common ailments that affect nearly everyone now and then. None of the formulas listed on this site have been tested or approved by the FDA. Please read more about this on this site's disclaimer notice.
